Cat furniture proves a big hit for moggy lovers

A SCOTS firm has been swamped with orders for its special range of furniture – for cats. 3 Fat Cats, a Lanark-based business, provides loungers, recliners, rocking chairs and even chaise longues for pampered moggies. The products – which are infused with catnip – are so popular that cats are “squabbling” over them.

The venture was launched by Kim Manners, 56, eight months ago after she spotted a gap in the market. Owners are so keen to give their pets five-star treatment that she has already sold a third of her stock, and has had to order another batch.

Cat lovers from across the world have shown interest in her products – and she has shipped items to Spain, Germany and even Sweden. “Cats love them and the shapes are amazing,” she said.

“If you give them this furniture it saves your own. Owners also look for something different about the house. One person bought the chaise longue for her cat because it fitted in with the Egyptian theme its pen had when she was taking it to cat shows.”

The furniture is made completely from cardboard, and is decorated with bright designs. It is even infused with catnip to draw the animals to their own chairs and off their owners’ couches.

Kim has four rescue cats of her own, and says that Rocky, Chico, Milly and Wee Wesley all love the furniture dotted around her home. Prices for the indulgent pieces range from £13.99 for a lounger, up to £29.99 for a rocking chair.

Kim added: “It’s comical to see my cats lying there sleeping or dozing in the sun but I hear from customers that their cats squabble over them. “I think I may look into doing a two-seater like an old fashioned courting bench so they have their own space.” Kim also sells unique pet food bowls, catnip toy spiders and even a small cat house for your pet to live in.
