Is this your cheetah?

Creston RCMP are asking people to be on the lookout for a big cat in their region. A really big cat.
Police issued a press release asking residents to watch out for an adult cheetah on the loose. Yes, you read that correctly. A cheetah.

Police say they received a report of a cheetah sighting near the community of Crawford Bay Thursday around 4:30 p.m. A motorist saw the animal wandering along Highway 3A near Kootenay Bay. The witness took photos of the cheetah and said it appeared to be wearing an orange cloth collar.

RCMP said they are working with B.C. Conservation Services in an attempt to safely locate the animal. If this is your cat, they would like to have a word with you.

Residents are warned to remain vigilant outdoors, especially with small children and animals.

Police say not to approach the animal if it is spotted and to immediately call 911 or the B.C. Conservation Service at 1-877-952-7277 to report the sighting.

Anyone with information about the animal or its owner is asked to contact the Controlled Alien Species Unit of the B.C. Conservation Service at 1-877-952-7277.

This is why you don’t let your cats outside, people.
