A pair of Western Washingtonians star in an Animal Planet series in which they summit a-meow-zing heights to save local cats.
(I’m so sorry for that.)
“Treetop Cat Rescue,” which debuted Saturday night, features
brothers-in-law Tom Otto and Shaun Sears, reportedly from Olympia and
North Bend respectively, who answer the call to do what firefighters are
stereotyped as doing — going out on a limb to retrieve wayward kitties.
The pair work on donations only for their two-man operation, Canopy
Cat Rescue. They have saved almost 500 cats from treetops up to 165
feet, according to Animal Planet.
They use high-end climbing gear and battle beehives, dead branches and weather hazards to pluck the cats from the canopies.
In “Treetop Cat Rescue,” the boys hit up Spanaway to rescue a cat
named Chuck Norris and Eatonville to save Spaz from three weeks of
living in the wild. They use treats, soft coaxing and ear scratches to
lure the cats into their nets.
That these beasts lead humans to scale ungodly heights just to pluck
their ungrateful paws from danger further proves to me that cats are
useless and evil, but there’s a certain charm in a couple of dudes going
so far to save them.
Someone get these guys a saucer of milk.
“Treetop Cat Rescue” airs at 9 p.m. Saturdays on Animal Planet.
