LITTLE ROCK, AR - If you like big cats and animal babies, you'll want to head for the Little Rock Zoo on Saturday.
That's when the zoo's four tiger cubs make their debut to the public.
Everyone's invited to come to the very special tiger cub "PAW-ty Conservation Celebration" to meet Liem, Eko, Olan, and Asmara.
The debut marks the first day the cubs will be seen in the Big Cat Exhibit.
The fun begins at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 2 p.m.
Zoo visitors will get to see the tiger cubs exploring their new surroundings for the first time.
The three males and one female cub were born November 12 to Malayan tigers Liku and Suhana. All four cubs are growing strong.
After
the birth, the zoo asked members of the public to submit names for one
of the male cubs. Tiger keepers sifted through nearly 500 entries and
decided to name two male cubs (Liem and Eko) from the submitted names,
instead of just one.
The birth of the cubs puts
the total number of Malayan tigers in a zoo accredited by the
Association of Zoos and Aquariums at 56. Malayan tigers are some of the
most endangered big cats in the world, with less than 500 left in the
wild. The birth of the tiger cubs at the Little Rock Zoo happened as a
result of a recommendation of the AZA Species Survival Plan for the
Malayan tiger.
