“We are sorry to hear that six lions, an endangered species, were killed on Thursday at dawn in Babati district by citizens, the Tanzanian Minister of Tourism and Natural Resources, Lazaro Nyalandu told state television on Friday.
From Tarangire Park, the lions were going to Manyara Park and as they were crossing the corridor between the two parks, one of them entered into an enclosure of a Masai tribe breeder, spreading panic.
Calling for help, the young Masai, four of whom were wounded, showed up essentially with their bows and arrows to face the big cats.
Wardens intervened but had to back up before numerical strength of the young Maasai deemed to be valiant warriors. One of them was armed with a rifle, according to local authorities.
The minister added that an investigation had been opened to find the killers of the six lions and bring them to justice.
