‘Big & Beautiful Fat #Cat’ adoption special going on at North Myrtle Beach animal shelter

Even cats need weight-loss coaches sometimes, and the Humane Society in North Myrtle Beach knows it.

From now until Jan. 21, the shelter is waiving the adoption fee for cats at the shelter that weigh more than 10 pounds. “These cats aren’t necessarily fat, just ‘big and beautiful,’” said Tina Hunter, shelter manager, in a news release about the adoption special. “We currently have 18 heftier cats that are looking for homes and good weight-loss coaches. Our super-sized cats often get overlooked because of their kitten counterparts, but, really, what’s not to love? We want to encourage people to give these cats a second look and a second chance at life.”

The adoption counselors recommend a diet plan and portion control to those who do adopt overweight pets. Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, de-worming, leukemia testime, micro-chipping and 30 days of free pet health insurance.

The shelter is at 409 Bay St., North Myrtle Beach; potential adopters can stop by Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Fridays 11 a.m.-6 p.m. or Saturdays 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Call 249-4948 or visit www.humanesocietynmb.org. More than 150 cats and kittens are available for adoption.
