A mountain lion in a backyard on Second Street in Buellton led to a “reverse 911” call Friday as a precaution, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., a resident in the 100 block of Second Street in Buellton reported seeing a possible mountain lion.
Sheriff's deputies responded and searched the area, however, they did not locate or see a mountain lion, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Kelly Hoover. About 10:20 a.m., another resident on Second Street reported seeing a small mountain lion in the backyard.
Deputies responded and located what appeared to be an adolescent mountain lion, Hoover said. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife responded and took over the incident.
The Sheriff's Department sent out a reverse 911 to area residents as a precautionary measure while the situation was being evaluated.
Instead of tranquilizing the animal, Fish and Wildlife officials decided to let the mountain lion leave on its own, said City Clerk Linda Reid.
