PETA Says Katy Perry's 'Roar' Music Video Is Cruel To Animals

Katy Perry has come under fire from PETA.

Katy Perry's latest single "Roar" has been a huge success for the 28-year-old singer but not everyone is pleased with the accompanying jungle-themed music video.

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently spoke out against Perry's visuals for "Roar" and the use of animals in the video. "Roar," shown above, features Perry in a jungle scene that has her mingling with animals including monkeys, tarantulas, and elephants. PETA, which has long protested the use of animal actors, took issue with said animals in the music video.

"Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods," a representative for PETA told the Daily Star. "They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations."

The representative added that Perry may have used a company which is under close watch, saying, "The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the 'Roar' video, has been inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001."

Perry, who had previously been championed by PETA for her vegetarian lifestyle with ex-husband Russell Brand, released the music video to "Roar" earlier this month. The track is the lead single off of Perry's upcoming fourth studio album "Prism." The album is scheduled to hit stores on Oct. 22.
