... In Violent Battle Caught On Video At Kenya's Samburu National Reserve
Life can be rough, even when you're at the top of the food chain.
A massive crocodile was fighting a lion, apparently over access to a dead elephant, in a dramatic scene caught on video -- but it was hardly a fair fight as two other lions soon joined the fray.
"My family and I managed to catch an extremely rare event on camera during our recent trip to the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya," Kai Banks wrote in the YouTube description. "We knew it was something special when our guide's mouth dropped open as soon as the lions jumped onto the crocodile."
Banks writes in the video that the beasts battled twice. The first fight was caught on video, the second with stills, which are also included in the clip above.
Check out the video to see the whole thing -- including the victory meal at the end.
UPDATE 8/21: Many readers have speculated that the elephant was killed by poachers. While poachers killed 20,000 elephants in 2013 and poaching continues to be a major problem today, the elephant in this case died of natural causes. The Banks family contacted the Huffington Post and said the tusks had been removed by the Samburu National Reserve after the elephant had died to prevent poachers from taking them.
