Turns out all the sad press black cats got leading up to Black Cat Appreciation Day earlier this week struck a chord with a sensitive someone who also happens to have a nice chunk of change (your favorite kind of person!).The Peninsula Humane Society was handing out free black cats over the weekend in honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day, a holiday aimed to undo stereotypes of black cats and show just how lucky they really are. The campaign worked so well that it not only found homes for 14 black cats, but it inspired an anonymous donor to drop the shelter enough cash to extend the black cat giveaway through the end of the month.
So until Aug. 31, the PHS is waiving the entire adoption fee for adult black cats and discounting black kitten adoptions by 50 percent. To put this deal into context, adoption fees are generally $80 for adult cats and $95 for cute little kittens. Adoptions include a spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, health check, behavior screening and microchip.
The PHS still has abut 40 black cats, including 15 kittens under six months of age in need of a home. So jot down this address and go get yourself a free cat — you deserve it: 1450 Rollins Rd. in Burlingame.

PS Glad I don't live near SanFran or I'd be so screwed.
