GLOUCESTERSHIRE big cat tracker Frank Tunbridge has confirmed a big cat sighting - but it’s probably not in Wiltshire as originally claimed.

After Herbert and Doreen Smith claimed they saw the big black cat in Murhill Woods, Trowbridge, last week and took a photo, it’s emerged that the picture is likely to be of a cat taken in the USA.

It may have been taken in Lapeer County, Michigan in 2007, and not rural Wiltshire after all.
Mr Tunbridge, who has cameras set up across Gloucestershire to gather definitive evidence of the animals, said: “Looking at the curve of the tail it is very feline. Cats lay down to eat like that, unlike dogs or foxes which usually stand up.
“It is difficult to judge the size as there is very little in the photo to suggest proportions, but the couple who saw it certainly say they were shocked and presumably they would have known if it was just the size of a domestic cat.”

Mr Tunbridge has been at the centre of some close calls in identifying big cats in the county, including a suspected attack on deer in Woodchester and near Dursley.

DNA evidence taken from the deer did not reveal cat DNA, but after that, Stroud teaching assistant Coryn Memory captured video footage of what could be a big cat in a field near her home.
