- Fifty cats have gone missing from a small town in New Zealand
- Ashleigh Hicks cat went missing on Thursday she wants him back
- Many cat owners believe one woman from the town is taking the cats
A woman who took the search for her missing cat online found 50 other people in her local area had lost their cats too.
Ashleigh Hicks said up to 50 cats have gone missing from Timaru and Temuka, on New Zealand’s south island in the past few months, the Timaru Herald reported.
Ms Hicks set up a Facebook Page call #freethefurbabies on Tuesday which quickly gained 182 members.
A Facebook Group has been formed after a woman found that 50 cats had gone missing in her neighbourhood
Many of these members believe a single woman is responsible for all the missing cats.
The concerned cat-lover told police about the 50 missing felines but police soon came back to her and said the investigations had been closed and the woman was not responsible.
‘It's still a problem that needs to be focused on ... I still suspect someone is doing something with the cats, foul play,’ she said.

She also said she was ‘devastated’ with the outcome of the investigation because so many of the people whose cats were missing had been hopeful of getting answers.
She wants people including police to know the group is not a bunch of 'crazy cat people who have nothing better to do with our time'.
The Facebook group is a closed group.
