Bruce Museum, Hermès big cat exhibit opens this weekend

The Bruce Museum will host “Fierce and Fragile: Big Cats in the Art of Robert Dallet" in conjunction with Hermès, a Parisian luxury items company and Panthera, a wild cat conservation organization based in New York.

The 60-piece exhibit opens this Sunday and will then go off to Europe and Asia. It features paintings, drawings and sketches of the eight big cat species: tiger, lion, leopard, cheetah, cougar, jaguar, snow leopard and clouded leopard.

Dallet, who passed away in 2006, collaborated with Hermès for 20 years.

According to the Bruce museum, the collaboration between Dallet and Hermès began in 1988. "After meeting Jean-Louis Dumas, then president of Hermès, his first scarf for Hermès, Kenya, was created.

In 1996, Dumas bought 80 works both to help support Robert Dallet as an artist, and to form the basis for future projects. Robert Dallet created twenty-five scarves for Hermès including the iconic Jungle Love in 2000 and Tendresse féline and Les Tigreaux, both in 2012. His work has also graced a myriad of other iconic Hermès products."

The Bruce Museum and Hermes will be waiving the admissions fee to encourage more people to attend and learn more about conservation of wildlife.
