‘Tell us, but don’t touch feral cats,’ Queensland officials warn

THE Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing said it hasn't found any panthers or "big cats" roaming the Cordalba State Forest.
The local discussion sparked by last week's story is a little less reassuring.

More than 30 comments were posted below the story at news-mail.com.au with reports of similar sightings and theories.

NPRSR eastern regional operations director Neil Cambourn said the department occasionally received reports of big cats seen in national parks and state forests.
"Other than large feral cats, no big cats have ever been found," he said.

"Rangers routinely undertake trapping or eradication programs for feral animals including feral cats, pigs and other pests."

Mr Cambourn said anyone who saw an animal in national parks that they feel should not be there, or poses a risk to public safety, should contact their local national parks office so the matter can be investigated.
"Under no circumstances should wild or feral animals be approached," he said.
