Big Cat Rescue home to rare serval cats

Since 1992, Big Cat Rescue in Tampa has been rescuing and providing a permanent home for exotic cats. They are now home to about 80 cats, who have all been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets or sometimes retired from performing acts, including the rarest cat in the entire world.

The rescue organization performed a surgery on the cat named Tonga just a few years ago to save his life. Susan Bass is the director of public relations for the Big Cat Rescue told News Now Tonga is an 18-year-old white serval. These very rare cats look like small leopards…often gold-colored with black spots and stripes.

Typically found in Africa, the serval cats don’t normally get very large. Instead, they usually weight about thirty five to found pounds.

Tonga and his brother, Pharaoh, are believed to be the two only all-white servals in the world, according to Bass.
